Ten Great Lakes Towns That Run on Their Own Time

The Great Lakes region holds the world's largest freshwater supply, and the ten towns above each carry a distinct piece of the shoreline character. Some lean on maritime industry, some on indigenous heritage, and others on the wineries, vineyards, and lakefront architecture built up over a century and a half of regional development. Across the region, each community trades the density of nearby cities like Chicago, Toronto, and Detroit for the quieter rhythm of lake-edge life. Each of these communities makes a strong case for a few days of exploration on its own terms.
