8 Senior-Friendly Towns In The Rockies
Turns out the Rockies make pretty good neighbors in your later years. Towns like Butte and Cody have low ground and big mountain views. A hospital is usually close at hand. Prices vary widely, with Montana among the most affordable and Colorado the priciest. In all of them, the mountains are part of the everyday view.

Bonner General Health is right in town and takes Medicare. Checkups do not mean a long drive. The lakeshore is quiet most of the year, good for paddling and birdwatching. Homes here are higher, around $590,000, a reflection of the lake setting.
Montrose, Colorado

Montrose has a flat, historic Main Street, easy on the feet. Black Canyon of the Gunnison is a short drive away, with paved overlooks that reach the rim without a climb. The air is crisp at 5,800 feet, high enough for mountain weather and low enough for easy breathing. The Ute Indian Museum and the Montrose Botanic Gardens make for quiet indoor days.

Settling In Below The Peaks
A good retirement in the high country rests on small, practical things. In Sandpoint, the lake is at the edge of town. Taos has galleries around the plaza and a senior meal calendar for the whole month. Sheridan has a senior center steps from its theater. In each town, the doctor is close and the daily errands are flat. None of them asks for the thin air or the long drives of the high country, and the mountains are in view the whole time.
