In 2013, the US Department of the Interior placed Mineola’s downtown on the National Register of Historic Places. Details like decorative cast iron columns and Carrara glass reflect what the main street looked like in the 1930s. One of the jewels on Mineola’s main street, the Lake Country Playhouse, has been showing movies for over 100 years and is the oldest theater in Texas still in use. The city's people continue to support and preserve their historic downtown through their “Main Street Program”. Their support ensures that locals and visitors alike can enjoy the history and spirit of downtown Nacogdoches. Cuero

Historically, Cuero was an agricultural town. Cuero means “leather” in Spanish, in reference to wild cattle that roamed nearby. The town still seeks to preserve its ranching and agriculture heritage through museums like the Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum, housed in the historic Knights of Pythias building on one of the main streets. Initially a Spanish colony, Goliad’s downtown offers a lot of stories. Visitors can print out a free walking guide and stroll through the beautifully renovated downtown while learning local history. Explore areas like Courthouse Square to see the restored Goliad County Courthouse and the “Hanging Tree,” a site of court sessions from 1846 to 1870.

As a recognized National Main Street City, Goliad strives to work with local businesses to preserve and protect its downtown. It offers a variety of cute shops, cozy eateries, and events. On the second Saturday of each month, the downtown hosts Goliad Market Days on the courthouse lawn.

Gonzales

Llano

As part of the Main Street America Program, Llano’s people continue to restore and preserve their downtown. Off Main Street, view the Llano County Courthouse, which was built in 1893 and features a Romanesque Revival style. Across the street, grab some food or drink at Joe’s Bar, which locals and visitors favor for its cozy atmosphere. They often have live music on weekends.

Though many visit Llano for its relaxed and peaceful feel, the town holds events that liven up the downtown, like the Llano River Pumpkin Float and their Victorian Christmas Festival called “A Dickens of Christmas”. They also put on a Farmers & Crafters Market twice monthly in the downtown historic square.
