7 Coziest Mountain Towns In Northern California

Northern California’s mountain beauty is defined above all by its mountain range like the Sierra Nevada, whose dramatic peaks shape many of the region’s most inviting towns. In Truckee, a historic downtown makes it one of the region’s most recognizable and enjoyable escapes. Mount Shasta, another NorCal icon, offers stunning views of the snowcapped volcano that gives the town its name. And Dunsmuir, set along the upper Sacramento River, is especially well known for trout fishing, where clear waters draw anglers looking for one of the town’s classic mountain experiences.

Located along Interstate 5 and surrounded by scenic wilderness, Mount Shasta offers stunning views of its snowcapped volcano. The area features several scenic hiking trails, like the Ney Springs and Faery Falls Trail and the South Gate Meadows Trail. Ney Springs and Faery Falls is a 1.4-mile-long trail that can be accessed by driving up a rough road that leads through the forest. It's 4.2-miles-long and has been described as one of the first trails to the iconic volcano. However, unlike Ney Springs, dogs are not allowed on the trail.
