In the heart of the American Midwest sits the state of Missouri. Long known as the "Show Me State", Missouri is a wonderful place to visit during the winter months. Washington

Nestled along the banks of the Missouri River, you'll find the town of Washington, Missouri. Home to 14,500 people, the city is stunning when the snow hits the ground. During the winter months, you can watch the annual Holiday Parade of Lights that takes place downtown. If you're still looking for the perfect stocking stuffer for a loved one or yourself, the annual Olde-Fashion Christmas Farmers’ Market is a must-visit. If you are someone who still loves getting a workout while enjoying the great outdoors, then you will love spending time at Krog Park, where you can walk around and build snow people. Then, when you are ready to warm up, stop in for a hearty meal at local favorite, The Oak & Front Kitchen + Bar, before getting a good night's rest at the River Sirens Hotel!

Hermann

Established in 1837, the charming town of Hermann is given new life when Old Man Winter makes his way to town. In December, you can pay a visit to the annual German-themed Christmas Market, where you can pick up handmade gifts and decorations. Speaking of decorations, the annual Holiday House Tour will take you around town to view the immaculately decorated homes in the area. For an activity that won't put a chill in your bones, pay a visit to the Hermann Museum to view their annual Holiday Train display. While in town, you can warm up with some traditional German food at the Tin Mill Restaurant and stay at The Inn at Hermannhof. The boutique hotel offers inviting accommodations with great views of Hermann's snow-dusted winter streets, and is only a stone's throw away from the famous Missouri River.

Warrensburg

The charming town of Warrensburg transforms into a winter wonderland during the time of year that "Jack Frost" pays a visit. During this time of year, locals and visitors alike enjoy going sledding at Cave Hollow Park. Or if you prefer, you can enjoy a walk among the park's snow-covered trees. Then you can warm up with a hearty meal at Hero's Restaurant & Pub. This charming town of around 20,000 is home to both the annual Festival of Lights and the annual Tree Festival. Imagine yourself sipping a warm drink as you are mesmerized by a dazzling array of colored lights against the backdrop of the night sky. Moments like that will remain with you for a lifetime.

During that event, the downtown area of Warrensburg is transformed into a 1840s-style street, reminiscent of those found in Dickens' classic novel, A Christmas Carol.

Carthage

Nestled in the heart of Jasper County is the city of Carthage. Also known by the nickname "America's Maple Leaf City", the community takes on a new life as summer gives way to fall and winter. During the winter months, visitors can take the little ones to have Cookies with Santa. Kids of all ages will enjoy spending a winter's day at Carthage's Municipal Park, where you can hike, make snow angels, build snow people, and who knows? You might even find a maple leaf under that snow! While you're in town, grab a warm drink from the Maple Leaf Coffee House and watch the annual Christmas Parade! Carthage is only 58 miles (93 km) from nearby Springfield, which makes it perfect for a day trip. If you are looking to stay for a few days, you can lay your head in the Boots Court Motel. Built in the 1930s, the funky hotel is a bastion of modern, old-world charm.

Osage Beach

Founded in 1886, Osage Beach is a lakeside resort town. During the summer months, it's a hive of activity, and during the colder months, it becomes a winter wonderland. Enjoy a chilly stroll along the chilly shores of the Lake of the Ozarks with a warm drink from Little Brews Coffee. This community of around 4,500 takes great pride in its Christmas decorations, making Osage Beach perfect for a scenic drive where you can view all the lit-up houses. During December, you can pay a visit to The Lodge Holiday Village Experience at the North Pole Cottage in nearby Lake of the Ozarks. While at the Lodge, you'll get to spend time with Santa and Mrs. Claus! As a fun fact about Osage Beach, did you know the town's original name was Zebra? As a resort town, Osage Beach has plenty of options for places to stay, including the nearby Lodge of Four Seasons. So pack your parka, you’re headed to the beach!

Rocheport

Beautiful Rocheport, Missouri, is a great spot for a wonderful winter getaway. The charming community is home to just over 200 people, so you will never feel crowded as you go snowshoeing, hiking, or cross-country skiing in the Katy Trail State Park! Along the trail, you'll find the Katy Trail B & B. The boutique-style home away from home is a fantastic place to stay while in town. For a relaxing stroll back in time, you can pay a visit to Rocheport's Historic District to see all of the snowcapped historic buildings. While in town, make sure that you stop by the Winter Wonderland Holiday Market, where you can purchase handmade gifts! It may be the giving season, but there is no rule that says you can't get yourself a gift or two! For a great meal, stop in at The Bistro on The Blufftop at Rocheport.

Eminence

Nestled in the heart of the Ozark National Scenic Riverways, you'll find the charming town of Eminence. Home to just around 500 people, this postage-stamp-sized resort town is a haven for snowbirds. The riverside resort town is much less busy in the winter than it is in peak season. As a result, you'll have plenty of room to enjoy the beauty of the nearby Rocky Falls. Beautiful all year round, this natural wonder is breathtaking in the winter. Truly an example of art found in nature. To view some local history, make sure to visit the nearby Alley Mill. Built in 1894 and located right next to the Alley Spring, the mill and surrounding area are a great place to take photos as you walk around the snow-covered land. Imagine how different life was during those late 1890s winters.

If you're lucky, you might even get a chance to watch the annual Christmas Parade while you're in town.
