It is more important to find out the identity of the person that a serial killer might want to kill rather than his motivation.

How Many Serial Killers Are Active In The UK Now?

  • Female serial killers mostly use methods such as poisoning, shooting, suffocating, stabbing, and drowning.
  • According to police authorities, gay men, women over 60, and sex workers are most likely to be attacked.
  • Some of the most notorious serial killers in the UK nowadays are Peter Bryan, Levi Bellfield, Anthony Hardy, and Stephen Port.

Serial killers are individuals who typically murder three or more victims for reasons such as pleasure, lust, or sexual gratification. Many of them may have DNA abnormalities and psychological issues stemming from abuse in their childhood, whether it be sexual, physical, or emotional. These past traumas leave an imprint, and when triggered by specific events, they resort to killing.

Serial killers can be either male or female, and evolutionary psychology suggests they function differently. Female serial killers are often believed to kill for financial motives, with the most common methods including poisoning, shooting, suffocation, stabbing, and drowning. Some theorists argue that serial killers are born rather than created.

Serial Killers In The United Kingdom

In Scotland and the UK, serial killings are quite rare, leaving police with limited experience and knowledge to combat and apprehend serial offenders. Police authorities indicate that sex workers, women over 60, and gay men are the most vulnerable groups. However, Professor Dennis Wilson points out that serial killing is an uncommon occurrence, and detectives typically handle few cases of this nature. For investigators, identifying potential victims of a serial killer is a higher priority than understanding the killer's motivations.
