Spartanburg is known as the "Hub" because of the convergence of seven prominent railroads downtown. Like many other South Carolina towns, the Hub is deeply rooted in its history and can be experienced through its food at places like Cribb's Kitchen and The Kennedy. Significant Revolutionary War history can be explored at the iconic Cowpens National Battlefield in nearby Gaffney, part of the Liberty Trail maintained by the American Battlefield Trust.

The Clevedale Historic Inn and Gardens is as historic as the town, and its owners are just as charming. Camden

Camden is a charming community that seamlessly blends historical significance with cultural influence, making it an ideal destination for a weekend retreat. The Haile Street Grille is recommended for breakfast, having been a local favorite for nearly 100 years. Afterward, prepare to spend a day at the Historic Camden Revolutionary War Site. The site has a main campus and a battlefield a few miles away where a line of Marylanders held off British soldiers for over four hours, considered epic in a war where most of the skirmishes lasted no more than 30 minutes.

The Revolutionary War Visitor Center on Broad Street includes several historic and recreated buildings, including the Public House, the Market Building at Pine Tree Creek, and Liberty Hall. The 3.4-acre estate comprises the iconic Georgian Kershaw Building and musket and cannon exhibitions. The center is deeply involved in archaeological exploration and recently discovered 14 deceased soldiers who are buried across the street at the Old Presbyterian Burying Ground. The interpreters at Camden have an unrivaled passion for honoring the fallen and preserving Camden's history, and the walking tours provide a way to walk through this history.

Ninety-Six

Ninety-Six is a small town in the region of the same name, big on history and charm. History buffs should not miss visiting the Ninety-Six National Historic Site. Also on the Liberty Trail, the battlefield is home to the unique Star Fort, constructed in 1780 by the British. The earthen works fort became a coveted possession by Continental soldiers. They were fired down upon from the 30-foot Maham Tower, yet another monumental exhibit on the hallowed grounds of the park.

The town of Ninety-Six has a classic small-town atmosphere, blending naturally with its historical surroundings. The drive and the can-do spirit are seen at places like the 96 Pecan Company, operated by a husband and wife team that handles the whole operation on their farm. Though new, the small-town charm carries over into classic eateries such as Derick's Cafe, which blend well with the local community.

Cayce

Scenic Cayce is a small town on the Congaree River near the capital of South Carolina, Columbia. It is also home to Farm 1780, a working farm that is a favorite among many local chefs for its organic and heirloom varieties. Clinton

Clinton is a naturally beautiful area drenched in Revolutionary War history and scenic attractions such as trails and waterfalls. It is most famous for being home to the Musgrove Mill State Historic Site and the Presbyterian College. Beaufort is a stunning coastal city on Port Royal Island, part of the string of Sea Islands along the Atlantic Coast.
