8 Safest Towns In Gulf Coast For Senior Living

The Gulf Coast is full of cozy small towns that are both safe and fun. Based on data from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, we selected eight Gulf Coast towns in Florida that pair relatively low reported crime with appealing settings. On Florida's Southwest shoreline, Venice provides seniors with a gorgeous fishing pier and views of the Gulf of Mexico. Off Florida’s Big Bend, Cedar Key brings Dock Street harbor view and sunset cruises from the City Marina. If you want to enjoy a comfortable retirement near the water, these towns below are for you.

Venice

On Florida’s southwest shoreline in Sarasota County, Venice lies about 20 miles south of Sarasota with established neighborhoods and easy access to the Intracoastal Waterway. Venice Beach brings a broad sandy shore, gentle surf, regular shark tooth hunting along the waterline, and sunset light near the pavilion. Along West Venice Avenue, Historic Downtown Venice features Mediterranean Revival storefronts and local staples such as Ciao Gelato and Burgundy Square Cafe. In Collier County on Florida’s southwest shore, Naples lies just south of Fort Myers where palm-lined streets, canals, and polished neighborhoods meet the Gulf. Naples Pier remains one of the city’s landmark sights, drawing daily walkers, anglers, dolphin watchers, and evening crowds gathering for sunset. Across town, Naples Botanical Garden spreads over 170 acres with water features and themed areas such as the Brazilian Garden and Asian Garden. Along Santa Rosa Sound in Okaloosa County, Fort Walton Beach spreads just west of Destin and across the water from Okaloosa Island, with neighborhoods and public grounds lining the shoreline. Fort Walton Beach Landing Park follows the sound with a fishing pier, shaded green space, and a waterfront amphitheater used for local events and evening concerts. On nearby Okaloosa Island, The Boardwalk combines direct beach access with places such as Rockin’ Tacos and a steady lineup of live music. The Air Force Armament Museum, just north of town, showcases aircraft, missiles, and aviation history tied to Eglin Air Force Base. Valparaiso

Valparaiso rests on the shore of Tom’s Bayou in Okaloosa County, just inland from Destin and Fort Walton Beach, with quiet residential streets and quick access to the bayou. At Lincoln Park, residents have a swimming area, docks, shaded picnic space, and a public boat ramp right at the shoreline. On Westview Avenue, the Heritage Museum of Northwest Florida presents exhibits on Panhandle life, Native artifacts, early tools, and regional archives. Nearby in Niceville, Turkey Creek Nature Trail winds under cypress and pine with a long boardwalk, clear spring-fed water, wildlife watching, and popular swimming spots. For a meal in a waterside setting, The Boathouse Landing serves seafood overlooking Tom’s Bayou.
