The United States has many airlines, both big and small, that fly many routes. Many are known for their quality, safety, and punctuality. Checking baggage can be an expensive part of flying. In order to avoid surprise fees, read this list to see the baggage fees of airlines in the United States from best to worst.

Southwest Airlines has the best baggage policy out of all the listed airlines. The airline allows passengers one free carry-on and two free pieces of checked luggage. Additional pieces of luggage will cost passengers $75 USD apiece.

Delta Air Lines often allows passengers both one free carry-on and one free checked bag. However, passengers traveling shorter distances within Canada, the US, and Mexico may be charged $30 USD for their first checked bag and $40 to $75 USD for the second.

Passengers on transatlantic flights will be charged $60 USD and $100 USD for their first and second bags.

Passengers on Allegiant Air will be charged $10 to $75 USD for their carry-on bag and $20 to $50 USD for each checked bag. Bags surpassing 80” in height, width, or length will be charged an additional $50 to $75 USD.

Frontier Airlines have some of the highest costs for carry-on and checked bags. Passengers flying with Frontier will have to pay $30 to $60 USD just to bring a carry-on bag. Their first checked bag will cost $30 to $50 USD, the second checked bag will cost $45 to $55 USD, and any additional bags will be $85 to $95 USD.

The first checked bag will cost $21 to $65 USD, the second will cost $31 to $60 USD, and the third to fifth bags will cost $76 to $100 USD each.
