Home to just 12,764 people, the beautiful town of Gaffney was also the birthplace of acclaimed film actress Andie McDowell, star of such cinematic classics as "Groundhog Day" and the criminally underrated "Hudson Hawk." Though she no longer lives in town, visitors will easily recognize Gaffney's most famous permanent resident, Peachoid, the giant peach. Built in 1981, the world-famous roadside attraction is actually the town's water tower.

After you've taken your selfie with the giant peach, you can pay a visit to the Gaffney Museum of History & Culture to learn more about the "Peach Capital of the World" that is Gaffney. For a pulse-pumping, heart-thumping, high-octane experience, you can take in a race at the Cherokee Speedway to watch drivers with nerves of steel push their bodies and cars to the limit and beyond on the racetrack. Just don't forget your earplugs. If you get hungry while in town, stop in for a meal at Daddy Joe's Beach House BBQ and Grill.

Edisto Beach is only 48 miles (77 kilometers) from Charleston, making it a perfect day trip destination. Fun fact: Edisto Beach is the home of legendary Broadway actress Patti LuPone.
