The new Rwanda flag was officially adopted on October 25, 2001. It was designed by a local artist.
The green is symbolic of the country's prosperity, the yellow is symbolic of potential and real economic development, and the blue is symbolic of happiness and peace. The sun and its rays are said to represent enlightenment.
