Visitors will find the Giddy Up Country Music event to be a showcase of both popular and emerging country artists. Another popular event is the appropriately named Mammoth Reggae Festival, which brings live reggae performances to the mountains. And for those who want to enjoy a cool drink in the summer, the Mammoth Margarita Fest serves up the area’s finest margaritas, allowing people to savor them while listening to live music and dancing.

Several nearby towns make for great visits if you are in the Mammoth Lakes area. The community of June Lake is located between Gulf Lake and the far more popular June Lake. June Lake is renowned for its crystal-clear waters and impressive views of the Sierra Nevada. Covering 320 acres, the lake is one of the largest in the area and is popular among many who enjoy heading out by canoe or kayak. The town of Lee Vining is yet another popular town known for its lakeside living. The town is located alongside Mono Lake. Those visiting the town typically head to the Mono Lake Tufa State Natural Reserve to enjoy a day of hiking, bird-watching, and cross-country skiing. Those heading onto the lake by kayak can find Paoha Island at the lake’s center, a 2,000-year-old island created by lava flows.

Bishop is yet one more nearby town that provides access to incredible natural views. The surrounding Sierras rise in the distance, creating a beautiful backdrop for those in town. Visitors will find regular events, such as the Farm to Table Market, serving up locally grown food, while the Sage to Summit Winter Race Series takes place at the Millpond Recreation Area, setting runners off on a 5K race. Those who want to sit back and relax over a drink can head to Whiskey Creek, a county inn that has been operating since 1924 and continues to serve breakfast combos, tuna melts, and steaks to all who step through its doors.
