San Luis Rio Colorado, Mexico

San Luis Rio Colorado is a small city as well as the name of its surrounding municipality in the State of Sonora, Mexico. It is the fourth-largest community in the state and municipality and also in terms of population. According to the 2020 census, the city had a population of 176,685. San Luis Rio Colorado is a border city with a tourism downtown area that includes pharmacies, bars, and other businesses, attracting thousands of cross-border tourists who seek medical and dental services.

San Luis Rio Colorado is a Mexico-Arizona border city located south of the border town of San Luis, Arizona, United States. The city is located in the northwest corner of the State of Sonora near the border with the Mexican state of Baja California. The Colorado River on the California-Arizona-Baja California border passes near the city, making the area of the San Luis Valley a major agricultural center. The San Luis Colorado municipality in which the city of San Luis Rio Colorado is in spans over 8,412 sq. km in the Sonoran Desert.

San Luis Rio Colorado is one of Mexico’s hottest and driest cities. The cold season lasts from November to February, with December being the coldest month, with an average low temperature of 8.3°C and a high temperature of 20.5°C. The city receives an average annual precipitation of 1.91 inches.

History Of San Luis Rio Colorado

San Luis Rio Colorado got the city status in July of 1958. Since then, the city has served as the administrative center for the surrounding municipality. San Luis Rio Colorado also initially served as an important inland port for steamers passing Colorado from the Gulf of California.
