Who are Millennials?
Also known as Generation Y, millennials are a 21st century generation that were born between the early 1980s and the early 2000s. Most millennials are well educated and many have obtained a university degree. Millennials have greatly affected workplaces in terms of their diversity and personnel management needs. They mostly communicate through instant messaging applications such as Snapchat, texts, or emails, telephone conversations, and face-to-face interactions.

The generation is extremely tech-savvy and social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are flooded with millennials. Millennials use technology to have fun, study, undertake projects, and resolve life challenges. For example, the use of personal assistant apps has made it easy for millennials to manage their personal and work schedules proactively.

Although millennials face a plethora of financial challenges including student loan debt, low income due to employers' high bargaining power, and high costs of living, many millennials are interested in investing in stocks. Given these many challenges, most millennials wish to have their own businesses rather than be employed their entire lives.

Millennials prefer flexible schedules to promote work-life balance because they value personal relationships with others. The majority of the generation view personal and family values as more important than career advancement. Millennials are intolerant to unpleasant work environments so many adjustments have been made. Many workplaces have paternity leave, mothers' breastfeeding rooms, and exercise rooms available for use.
How to Keep Millennials Motivated at Work
Working for an employer who appreciates and rewards employees work is important to millennials. Employers need to provide this generation with flexible schedules and should be deliberate in ensuring their career growth. Millennials enjoy working on different kinds of assignments which pose a variety of challenges. Whenever they find themselves in a position that becomes redundant, they may leave to find a more challenging job.
