The company was incorporated in 1887, and the first President of the company was Robert Wood Johnson. Robert Wood Johnson worked throughout the 19th century, trying to improve sanitation practices. The company was a pioneer of the first commercial first aid kits, and although it was designed to assist workers on the railroad, it soon became a common practice in treating various injuries. Johnson & Johnson’s heritage baby business was started in 1894 when the maternity kits were launched.
