Medicine Park’s location in the foothills of the scenic Wichita Mountains in southwestern Oklahoma makes it an ideal spot for a weekend retreat. Handily located just off the I-44 between Oklahoma City and Wichita Falls, this picturesque small town is famous for its distinctive cobblestone streets and charming architecture, as well as for its proximity to the Wichita Mountains National Wildlife Refuge. Established in 1901 and covering over 60,000 acres of prairie grassland and rugged granite mountains, fun things to do here include seeing wildlife such as American bison, Texas longhorn cattle, elk, and a variety of bird species.

Located on the shores of Lake Eufaula, the town of Eufaula (pronounced “yoo-faa-luh”) is a magnate for weekend travelers. Located adjacent to the I-35 highway a few miles north of Oklahoma City, Guthrie is an easy getaway from the state capital. Guthrie Historic District is the place to begin a weekend adventure, exploring this National Historic Landmark, with top attractions, including the Oklahoma Territorial Museum, with its displays relating to the state's pioneer history. Other must-visits include the grand Temple of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry and the historic Pollard Theatre. Pawhuska’s location in the Osage Nation makes it an ideal destination for a memorable weekend getaway for fans of the work of Ree Drummond, aka The Pioneer Woman, whose culinary delights have put Pawhuska on the map for foodies. The food adventures in fact begin at The Pioneer Woman Mercantile, which offers the chance to experience Drummond's famed cuisine first-hand, as well as get in some shopping for unique kitchenware and gifts.

Broken Bow

Tucked away in the southeast corner of the state, close to the border with Texas and Arkansas, Broken Bow’s setting in the foothills of the Ouachita Mountains is undoubtedly a scenic one. Located in the rolling hills of the Arbuckle Mountains, picturesque Sulphur serves as the gateway to the Chickasaw National Recreation Area, a unique national park with spring-fed pools, lush vegetation, and diverse wildlife and is fun to explore.
