HOUSTON

Welcome to Houston, the largest city in Texas; the 4th largest metro area in America, and a multicultural urban sprawl home to some of the nation's largest Asian, Arab and Latin American populations.

In addition to its amazing cultural mixture, Houston's is home to an active visual and performing arts scene that includes a world class symphony, a big-city theatre district with a full-time ballet company, and dozens of year round folk art celebrations and festivals.

Founded in 1836 on the banks of Buffalo Bayou, the city has grown to be recognized as the energy capital of the world, and as the home of the Johnson Space Center (NASA).

Houston is a fanatical sports town, home to three domed stadiums, including the famous Astrodome. It hosts many professional sports teams including the Astros, Rockets and Texans.

Sitting near the Gulf of Mexico on the coastal plains of east Texas, Houston enjoys mild winters and sultry summers, and a panoramic skyline that is unforgettable. Locals have a serious passion for good food, especially the famous Texan barbecue and Mexican food dishes of all description.

Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo
Also called Rodeo Houston, it's both the world's largest livestock exhibition and the world's largest rodeo event. This 20 day western adventure takes place every year in March in Reliant Stadium Park.

The Houston Rodeo features exciting bull riding, livestock judging, a carnival, live concerts, a rodeo parade, pig racing, barbecue, auctions and much more. You'll find something fun to do at this very Texas event! The rodeo has drawn some of the world's biggest stars and music legends, including Elvis Presley, Maroon 5, Beyonce, and every country music group on the planet.
Space Center Houston
The official NASA's visitor center, Space Center Houston includes live shows, interactive exhibits, educational presentations and an IMAX theatre. Historic original spacecraft are on display, such as the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo capsules.

Texas travelers can observe astronauts training for upcoming space missions. Don't forget to touch a moon rock; try to land a space shuttle via simulator; or take a behind-the-scenes tour at the Johnson Space Center.
The Menil Collection
The Menil Collection is one of the nation's most important collections of art. Brothers Dominique and John de Menil amassed an eclectic selection of more than 15,000 artworks, proving their dedication and interest in modernism and fine arts in general.

Four major areas are represented in this Houston art collection - Antiquity, Byzantine and Medieval, Tribal, and 20th Century Arts. Most notable are the impressive examples of surrealist art, the most comprehensive collection in the museum, which includes works by Salvador Dali and Pablo Picasso.
