Huahine
Island Details Status Settled by the Polynesians in 850, Huahine is part of the Society Islands of French Polynesia, a French overseas possession, claimed in 1843.

General Information Known for superb beaches and ideal weather conditions, this favorite of the tourist industry avoids the congestion of Tahiti in a very relaxed and quiet South Pacific astmosphere.
It actually consists of two main islands (Huahine Nui and Huahine-Iti), that are surrounded by a coral reef and joined together by a natural land-bridge.
The word Huahine means pregnant woman in Tahitian, and the island gets its name from its shape because when viewed from a distance it looks like a pregnant woman lying on her back
Location Description It's about 105 miles slightly northwest of Tahiti and approximately 2,600 miles south of Hawaii Terrain A rich green, mountainous island.
