South America
Paraguay is an agricultural country landlocked in the middle of South America. Asuncion the capital, Lambare and Fernando de le Mora are its largest cities. The official languages are Guarani and Spanish and the currency is the Guarani. The population (1999 estimate) was 5.6 million, with approximately 28 people per square mile. The country is subtropical with most of its people living on the southern shores of the Paraguay River. The west and northwest are sparsely populated.
