The worldwide standard for coordinated universal time is now abbreviated as UTC. Some sources refer to it as UTC/GMT, and some browsers, I.E. Firefox and Safari, still display it as GMT. The starting time for UTC (Coordinated Universal Time), formerly known as GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) begins in Greenwich, England; it is displayed in the center column below, and it never observes daylight saving time, or (DST)

Time Zone Information
From Greenwich, travel east across the planet's time zones and the time advances; I.E. Jakarta, Indonesia is seven hours ahead of Greenwich time.
If you travel west across the Atlantic Ocean the reverse is true; note how Honolulu, Hawaii is ten hours behind Greenwich time.
The International Date Line sits generally on the 180ยบ line of longitude in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, and is the imaginary line that separates two consecutive calendar days.
It is not a perfectly straight line andhas been moved slightly over the years to accommodate needs of varied countries in the Pacific Ocean.
Immediately to the left of the International Date Line (the date) is always one day ahead of the date (or day) immediately to the right of the International Date Line in the Western Hemisphere.
