Ohio Schools - Colleges and Universities
In terms of statistics and demographics, the most well-known colleges and universities in the state of Ohio are starkly different. On one side, some of the largest universities in the country are located on Ohio, including Columbus's Ohio State University, which enrolls nearly 60,000 students. On the other hand, small, elite, liberal arts colleges like Oberlin and Kenyon also call Ohio home.
In fact, one of the structural models for creating liberal arts college consortia is the Five Colleges of Ohio Consortium—or the "Ohio Five," as it's often referred to—a group of five colleges that united in 1995 in order to collaborate and promote growth among its members. In addition to Oberlin and Kenyon, the College of Wooster, Denison University and Ohio Wesleyan University make up its membership.
Ohio was also the home of one of the most infamous moments in the history of higher education in the US, when National Guard troops killed four students during Vietnam War protests in 1970 at Kent State University.
