New York Colleges Schools and Universities

new york schools
Like so many things in the Empire State, higher education in New York can be separated into two categories: In New York City and outside of it.Inside New York City, the state and city combine to operate the public City University of New York system, which includes 23 institutions and serves more than 480,000 students. Of course, community colleges, small private colleges, and large private schools—including Columbia University and New York University—also operate within the nation's largest city.

Outside of the city, a network of SUNY (State University of New York) colleges and universities make up most of the public education options for prospective students. For private institutions, New York offers a combination of New England-style private liberal arts colleges and larger, more expansive private research universities. Cornell University, an interesting case study, is one of the nation's only private-public hybrid universities: of its seven colleges, three are public and four are private.
