Dominica has a tropical wet climate with warm temperatures and heavy rainfall, and like most islands in the eastern Caribbean, conditions are cooled somewhat by the northeast trade winds.

Daytime temperatures range from 79°F (26°C) to the mid 80s, although summertime temps in the low 90s (32°C) are not uncommon. In the evenings, temperatures are a bit cooler, but not much. In the upper elevations of the mountains, much cooler is the norm.

Rain occurs throughout the year, with the heaviest amounts falling June through October. Average yearly rainfall in some mountainous areas exceed 8890 mm (350 inches), and that's among the highest accumulations in the world. Note that rain falls each and every day in the rainforest.

Dominica is subject to hurricanes and severe winds from mid-July through October. Many travelers feel the best time to visit Dominica is from December through May, as that's the coolest and driest time on this beautiful island.
