Winters are cooler ranging from 46°F (8°C) along the coast to 26°F (-3°C) higher in the mountains.

The mountainous regions of Montenegro endure some of the most significant rainfall in Europe, with annual amounts around 194 in. (4,928 mm).

Most precipitation falls in winter, although snow is rare - especially along the coastline.
