With an overall temperate climate, the barrier effect from the Balkan's tends to dominate weather conditions throughout Bulgaria. Precipitation is more common through autumn, with October and November being the wettest months of the year.

Summers along the Black Sea coastal areas are warm, often hot, while inland, the air is more moderate with temperatures reaching only 73°F (23°C).

Winters are cold with heavy snowfall in the mountains, and an average temperature of 30°F (-1°C), sometimes even dipping as low as 20°C below zero.
