Short Track Speed Skating

A member of the ice speed skating family, short track speed skating athletes complete on a rink the size of a standard hockey arena. It has been a part of the Winter Olympics since the 1988 games in Calgary, Canada, when it was a demonstration sport. It has its origins in North America. There are two types of short track speed skating events at the Winter Olympics: individual events and relay events. In the individual events, the athletes with the shortest times win. In the relay events, individual athletes compete one after another. The team with the shortest overall time wins.
