Here's What First Class Looks Like On Different Airlines (And How Much They Cost)

If you want to stretch out and relax during your flight, first class is the way to go.

Flying in an airplane isn’t the luxury experience it used to be. These days, airlines try to reduce costs and increase revenue by squeezing as many seats into the cabin as possible. The result? Cramped space for both passengers and their luggage. If you want to stretch out and relax during your flight, first class is the way to go. These are some of the first class seats available on popular airlines around the world.

For flights within the United States, United is one of the more popular airlines to fly first class. Comfortable leather recliners feature an adjustable headrest, center console with extendable cocktail table, and smartphone holder. The fare also includes two checked bags, DirecTV, and alcoholic beverages. However, if you’d like to stay connected with onboard WiFi, you’ll have to pay extra.

Australia’s flagship airline Qantas doesn’t joke around when it comes to first class. Airport lounges feature world-class food and spas to relax before your flight. Once on board, you’ll find a spacious armchair where you can enjoy a luxury meal for one or two. You’ll also get comfy pajamas and a wide selectino of inflight entertainment.

Known as “La Première”, Air France’s first class experience is virtually unparalleled. Passengers are greeted curbside at the airport and escorted through priority check in and security screening. Each first class cabin is limited to just four seats, so you’ll have maximum privacy. The comfortable reclining seats convert into beds with a memory foam mattress and duvet. Your first class ticket also includes fine French cuisine, a beauty travel kit, and a bathrobe.

Qatar Airways used to hold the trophy for best first class before being dethroned by Singapore Airlines. But these first class seats are still at the top of the list in airline luxury. Each seat can convert into both a fine dining table for two (to enjoy a meal with your travel companion) and a lie-flat bed. Food served onboard includes caviar service and multi-course meals. You’ll also be given designer amenity kits and sleepwear.

There’s a reason Singapore Airlines has won countless awards for its first class cabin. Each extra-wide seat can fold flat into a bed, letting you get enough beauty rest to arrive at your destination completely refreshed. The airline’s Book the Cook program allows you to order a chef-curated gourmet meal up to 24 hours before your flight. For an additional upgrade, book a private suite with its own compartment containing a lounge chair, touchscreen TV, and twin or double bed.
