Then slap the bread together to make a sweet and salty sandwich. Americans choose between creamy or chunky peanut butter and any fruit-flavored jelly or jam to make their favorite sandwich combination. Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches feed millions of Americans every year.
A lobster roll consists of chunks of lobster meat mixed with mayonnaise and lemon and put in between a buttered hot dog bun. Chocolate chip cookies were first made around 1938 by adding bits of chocolate to a cookie. Now, chocolate chip cookie eaters can enjoy their cookies made with a variety of ingredients like vegan chocolate chips, egg substitutes, white chocolate, and brown sugar.
Americans take their BBQ so seriously that there are competitions everywhere to find the best barbecue pitmaster. Americans will take their barbecue with a dry rub or with a sauce. Chicken, pork, and beef are all barbecue staples. Barbecuing goes hand in hand with tailgate parties. Each restaurant and region in the United States makes its barbecue differently, so Americans have a lot of different choices when it comes to eating barbecue.
Clam chowder is a staple of the New England region of the US. It may not look the tastiest since it has a creamy color and is lumpy looking, but it tastes smooth and rich. The soup combines potatoes, salted pork, heavy cream, herbs, and clams. Clam chowder is filling and warms the body on a chilly day.
Whether it is frozen or freshly made, Americans love to eat pizza. Friends and family gather around a pizza pie to talk and laugh as they dig into slices of baked pizza dough topped with melted cheese, vegetables, sausage, pepperoni, and whatever else can be dreamed up. Some pizzas are even made with barbeque sauce instead of tomato sauce under the toppings. Different regions of the country have developed different takes on pizza as well. Chicago developed the deep-dish style pizza. The Chicago deep-dish pizza’s crust is high rise and filled with tomato sauce and cheese. New York-style pizza features a thinner crust topped with cheese and other toppings like meats and vegetables.
A po’boy is a sandwich originally from New Orleans, Louisiana. It is usually made with fried seafood of some kind like shrimp, oysters, crawfish, fish, or crab. Lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and mayonnaise are also put on the sandwich. Other varieties of po’ boys include ham, sausage, chicken, cheese, and hamburger. Po’ boy eaters can include hot sauce on their sandwiches if their palettes are so inclined. As with most popular American foods, people will tell you a variety of places to find the best version.

Biscuits and gravy became so popular because it is made with easily accessible ingredients. It is a filling meal that many used to eat before they went to work in the fields. Now, it is so popular that even some McDonald’s serve it.
Roasted marshmallows and chocolate smashed between two graham crackers results in gooey, chocolatey deliciousness. S’mores are an American staple for campers and children in the summer. The Girl Scouts perfected the s'mores recipe in 1927, and campfires have not been complete without them ever since. August 10 is National S’mores Day.
