Climate:
In general terms Alaska weather is damp, rainy and somewhat mild in the southern areas, cooler with less precipitation across the central reaches, while to the north of the Arctic Circle, conditions are very dry, with extremely cold temperatures. Heavy winter snows are common central and north.
From late May through early July, moderate conditions are common across south-central and southern Alaska; days are long, skies clear, with some rather pleasant temperatures.
North of the Arctic Circle there is constant daylight throughout the summer months; referred to as the (
Midnight Sun). During the winter here, the reverse is true as the area sits in total darkness with strong winds, significant snowfall and brutally-cold temperatures.
In the far south and southeast along (
the Inside Passage), days are long and frequently sunny, with summer high temperatures in the high 60's; winters are generally mild.
Traveling southwest along the Alaska Peninsula, summer high temperatures often reach the low-70's, while winter lows dip into the mid-20's.
Across the southern areas of Alaska the rainy season runs from late summer into early fall, with significant rainfall in the southeast. Winter brings snow, but the heaviest amounts fall in the upper reaches of the coastal mountains.
