The flag of Nicaragua was officially adopted on September 4, 1908. The blue and white are the original colors used by the United Provinces of Central America. The Nicaragua coat of arms is centered on the white panel. The five volcanoes within represent the five original states of Central America.

Nicaragua Coat of Arms:
coat of arms of nicaragua The Nicaraguan coat of arms was first adopted on 21 August 1823 as the coat of arms of Central America, but underwent several changes during the course of history, until the last version was introduced in 1971.

The triangle signifies equality, the rainbow signifies peace, the gorro frigio (Phrygian cap) symbolizes liberty and the five volcanoes express the union and brotherhood of all five Central American countries.
