dot Travel Information

arrow In this legendary land of King Arthur and the Round Table, and nearly 400 castles, popular attractions include the Great Glasshouse, Portmeirion Village, Snowdon National Park, the Llyn Peninsula and Swansea and the Gower Peninsula.

From secluded inland valleys to its western shoreline, and from Anglesey Island to the Brecon Beacons, Wales is a land of history and stunning natural beauty.

For travel tips, city details, major attractions and points-of-interest, follow the links below.

GENERAL ITEMS OF INTEREST

arrow Currency Even though the United Kingdom is a member of the European Union (home of the Euro) England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland all still use the Pound Sterling.

Note: Instead of traveling with your own country's currency and then paying the expensive cash conversion rates - to get the best exchange rate - we suggest you use an ATM for cash, and a credit card for purchases.

arrow Electricity Wales runs on 230 volts AC (50 cycles). Note that most modern laptop, cell phone and digital camera chargers are dual voltage and will work perfectly in England with just a simple adapter plug. Find electrical adapters, products and tips here!

arrow Times to Travel Wales' climate is much milder than expected (considering its location), as all of the British Isles are warmed some by the powerful Gulf Stream Current as it makes its way north through the waters of the North Atlantic Ocean from the Gulf of Mexico.

There certainly are exceptions, but in general terms winters are damp, mild and quite windy, and summers pleasant with frequent cloudy days.

Wales can be rainy, especially in fall and the early winter months, and much like Scotland, conditions can change quickly along the western coastline and in the high mountains of the northwest.

Most travelers seem to agree that May through September are the best months to visit.

VISAS

arrow A valid passport is required to enter Wales. For stays up to six months visa requirements (if any) vary from country to country. To find out whether or not you need to apply for a visa, we suggest you the contact the applicable British Consulate.

For stays longer than six months regarding employment, study or tourism, a visa is required and must be obtained in advance. For additional information please contact the British Consulate with jurisdiction over your country of residence.
