Climate:
Sweden's climate is milder than expected (
considering its location), as like most of Scandinavia it's warmed by the Gulf Stream and North Atlantic Drift.
Conditions are quite pleasant from May through July, with average daily high temps in the mid-70's, while mid-60's are common in the north. Late fall days are crisp and cool, and easy to enjoy.
In the mountains of the far north, summer temps seldom exceed 50°F, and much colder conditions and snow are possible at anytime of the year.
The months of August and September account for most of the rainfall, with the highest amount falling in the southwest. Winter snows central and north can be heavy (
especially in Lapland), and from Stockholm north, the waters of the Gulf of Bothnia do freeze.
Above the Arctic Circle the summer sun never completely sets and days are long and bright, while winter days across much of Sweden are shorter, and available daylight is muted and less intense.
