Climate:
The Shetland Islands experience an oceanic climate with mild winters and cool summers.
The climate is much warmer than expected (considering their location), as the entire archipelago is warmed by the powerful Gulf Stream Current, as it makes its way north into the
North Atlantic Ocean from the
Gulf of Mexico.
Average temperatures range from the low 40's (5°C) to the upper 50's (14°C) throughout the year, with an annual precipitation of 39.5 inches (1,003 mm).
In the far north during the summer months, the dark of night is hardly felt as the sun never totally sets. In winter the sun is seldom seen.
