dot Travel Info

arrow This land of shamrocks, mythical heroes and gorgeous landscapes (even in the rain) should be on anyone's must-see list of travel destinations.

Ireland is a grand and beautiful scene, one with ancient castles, mystic sites and stunning landscape vistas scattered across its countryside.

From the historic capital city of Dublin, west to the Cliffs of Moher, and from the Lakes of Killarney, north to the rugged landscape of Tory Island, this country has more than its share of things to see and do.

For travel tips, city details, major attractions and points-of-interest, follow the links.

GENERAL ITEMS OF INTEREST

arrow Currency Ireland uses the euro countrywide. Instead of traveling with your own country's currency and then paying the somewhat expensive cash conversion rates, we suggest - to get the best exchange rate - you use an ATM for cash and credit cards for purchases.

arrow Electricity Ireland runs on 230 volts AC (50 cycles). Note that most modern laptop, cell phone and digital camera chargers are dual voltage and will work perfectly in Ireland with just a simple adapter plug. Find electrical adapters, products and tips here!

arrow Times to Travel Ireland is best visited April through September, as the days are longer and temperatures pleasant. In July and August (the peak travel months), attractions are frequently crowded with long admission lines, so be early and beat the crowds.

As fall comes to an end, many points-of-interest close, as winter brings rain and wind to Ireland, especially central and west. Heavy precipitation is common along the western coastal areas.

Winter temperatures countrywide are more moderate than you might expect, and lows rarely dip below freezing. The higher elevations do receive some snow.

VISAS

arrow A valid passport is required to enter Ireland. For stays up to 90 days visa requirements (if any) vary from country to country. To find out whether or not you need to apply for a visa, we suggest you visit the Embassy of Ireland website.

For stays longer than 90 days regarding employment, study or tourism, a visa is required and must be obtained in advance. For additional info please contact the Embassy of Ireland with jurisdiction over your individual country of residence.
