dot Travel Information

arrow Denmark is a proud land of Viking history and long held traditions of royalty.

Tourism is a strong industry here as visitors from around the world return time and again to explore its ancient ruins and castles and to enjoy cultural festivals throughout the year.

In addition, Copenhagen and fabulous Tivoli Gardens, Legoland (for kids of all ages), Bornholm Island and the country's many islands, are popular attractions.

Not to be missed is Denmark's second largest city, Arhus, the Jutland seaside town of Ebeltoft, as well as the castle and picturesque villages on Funen Island, the birthplace of Hans Christian Andersen

For travel tips, city details, major attractions and points-of-interest, follow the links below.

GENERAL ITEMS OF INTEREST

arrow Currency Even though Denmark is a member of the European Union (home of the Euro) the country still uses the Danish Krone in financial transactions.

Note: Instead of traveling with your own country's currency and then paying the expensive cash conversion rates - to get the best exchange rate - we suggest you use an ATM for cash, and a credit card for purchases.

arrow Electricity Denmark runs on 230 volts AC (50 cycles). Note that most modern laptop, cell phone and digital camera chargers are dual voltage and will work perfectly in Denmark with just a simple adapter plug. Find electrical adapters, products and tips here!

arrow Times to Travel Denmark is very manageable at anytime of the year, as it's seldom hot or freezing. High temperatures in summer reach into the low 70's, with cooler mornings. Winter brings much colder days, but temps seldom fall below the low 30's.

Rain is possible throughout the year, with the heaviest amounts falling September - November. Denmark is windy in the winter months.

Denmark's geographical position affects winter daylight hours, as the sun rises by 8 AM, and sets no later than 4 PM. Summer days are longer as sunrise occurs before 4 AM, with sunset near 10 PM.

Even though crowds are heavy and attraction lines long, most travelers seem to agree that June through August are still the best months to visit.

For stays longer than six months regarding employment, study or tourism, a visa is required and must be obtained in advance. For additional information please contact the Royal Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs with jurisdiction over your country of residence.
