black sand beach bali
Bali has black sand beaches on its north and western shorelines. I am not a big fan of them as they're hard on barefeet. In addition, the sand is quite hot on sunny days. Regardless, they're nice to look at.

pink rooster bali
Walk through a village on Bali and you'll see vibrantly colored fighting roosters in woven cages. Bali, like many other nations, has banned cock fighting as a cruel sport, but local men still enjoy the qualities of their proud and elegant birds and keep some of them painted in very bright colors.

Tirta Gangga is a palace in eastern Bali, one noted of a maze of pools and fountains surrounded by a lush garden and stone carvings and statues. The complex was built in 1946 by the late King of Karangsem but was destroyed almost entirely by the eruption of nearby Mount Agung in 1963. Happily it has been lovingly re-built and restored.

Galungan is a Balinese Hindus holiday and rural streets come alive with color and festive decorations and huge ten-meter bamboo poles (Penjors) that hang over the roads making a pictorial archway and a beautiful welcome homecoming for the Gods. Penjors are not only for religious functionality like Galungan, but they are also used as adornments for weddings, hotel displays, art performances and special occasions when a guest of honor is in attendance at a function

Remember that happy litle boy at the top of the first Bali photo page. Well, these were his 6 friends, all giving me the suspicious, evil-eye when I first approached them. Well, it didn't take log to break the ice as they loved seeing their photos on my camera, and all of them left with a dollar.
