| With a close proximity to Southeast Asia, Darwin is influenced by its neighbors. Nearly 80 ethnic groups live harmoniously in the area, and Aboriginal traditions are woven into the fabric that is Darwin, Australia. Two major events have transformed this city: During World War II, more Japanese bombs fell on Darwin then fell on Pearl Harbor. Then, in 1974, Cyclone Tracey struck the city, many deaths were the result and most building were totally destroyed. Today this charming and interesting city is known for its busy markets, magnificent harbor, stunning sunrises and sunsets, and a friendly, laidback lifestyle. |
