Many have tried to climb it, and many have failed. The culprits (especially for novices) are bad weather, strenuous hiking demands and the special skills required to reach the top. (Granite Peak, at an elevation of 12,807 feet (3,904 m), is the highest point in Montana and is considered one of the most difficult to climb highpoints in the lower 48 states)
