This river is a conduit of sorts; besides providing access to one of a country's most important ports, it plays its part in connecting two additional bodies of water. (It provides access to the sea for the wine products of the Bordeaux region of France. Also, it's a part of the canal system that connects the Mediterranean Sea to the Bay of Biscay, one that allows a shorter and safer way for goods to pass from the agricultural areas of the South of France to the Atlantic Ocean. (The Garonne is one of the few rivers in the world that exhibit a tidal surge. As a result, surfers can ride that tidal surge at least as far as the village of Cambes (70 miles from the sea)
