Surrounded by protected forest and multiple recreational areas, this body of water is the largest of its type in a clearly defined geographical area. (As the largest lake in Indiana this man-made reservoir is home to 13,202 acres of protected forest and the Fairfax, Hardin Ridge, and Paynetown recreational areas. Also, Indiana's only federally protected U.S. Wilderness Area, the 13,000-acre Charles C. Deam Wilderness Area is positioned on its south shore)

With abundant fishing opportunities available throughout the calendar year, no wonder it's on the must-visit list of regional anglers. (The lake is covered with ice fisherman during typical midwestern winters) NOTE for Twitter followers: John Cougar Mellencamp, of "Here's a Little Ditty about Jack and Diane" fame, as well as many other songs, lives on the edge of the lake)
