This quiz first posted on (05/20/08) ![]() ![]() It was a long and bumpy ride from here to the bloody battlefields of World War II, but the British Navy sure depended on that journey. (The coal mines that opened here in the 1870's helped fuel the US and British Navies during both World Wars; drive the Industrial Revolution in the United States, and to totally change the economics of the entire region) ![]() ![]() It was a long and bumpy ride from here to the wild and crazy nitelife in Chicago, Illinois, and yet (surprisingly) both places (were at one time) quite similar, so a journey to the "Windy City" (as it turned out) was not necessary. (So many miners and speculators moved into this small town that it literally sprang up over night. It had traffic jams on the main street, and became one of the first cities in the world to have a noticeable skyline - with high rises that were only comparable to New York and Chicago in their day.
