Near the end of the 20th century, a nearby (serious) incident was the catalyst for the unforced evacuation of nearly 150,000 people. (On March 28, 1979, the Three Mile Island nuclear plant, along the Susquehanna River located just south of Harrisburg, suffered a partial meltdown. Although the meltdown was contained and radiation leakages were minimal, there were still worries that a forced evacuation would be necessary)
