To determine the distance between two significant cities of the world the methods (shown to the right) use data from Google Maps and a supplementary list of cities from around the world to find the latitude and longitude of the two places.
They then calculate the distance between cities (as the crow flies or as you would drive). It presents that information in miles, and kilometers.
As an example, the distance between Los Angeles and Buenos Aires is:
(6101 miles) (9818 kilometers)
NOTE: 1 mile (statue) or (land) = 5,280 feet, and/or 1.609.344 kilometers.
